-> same error as above

Port channel between pair of SX1012 and pair of HPE5406zl J9538A switches

I'm trying to understand how I can make a port channel connection between HP switches and Mellanox. From an existing article HowTo Configure a 3rd Party Switch Connected to a Pair of Mellanox MLAG Switches) I see that it can be done with a single Cisco switch. Can I do this with two pairs of switches with a similar method? The Mellanox switch pair sees an MLAG, while the HP switches see a port channel, or trunk? Here's what I'm thinking, does it make sense?

Thank you for posting your question on the Mellanox Community.

 

Can you please install the latest MLNX_OFED version which is version 4.3 including the latest firmware for the ConnectX-3 Pro EN ( For version 4.3 you need to have Ubuntu 16.04 installed)

If not possible to upgrade the OS to install the latest driver, please check if the ConnectX-3 cards have the latest available firmware installed, which you can check through the following link http://www.mellanox.com/page/firmware_table_ConnectX3ProEN

The firmware needs to be upgraded to 2.42.5000.

 

Please update with your new findings.

Hi!

SX1024 is Ethernet switch & SX6036 is Infiniband switch.

Hence there is nothing to connection each other.

 

If you add a gateway license to SX6036 that can change port mode to Ethernet then connect each other.

You also need IB-to-ETH gateway (or versa) configuration that help communication between IB and ETH network.

The issue you see now is not related to the linker (-libverbs option) but to missing headers files.

You need to create another port channel in the similar way which is created in the cisco switch.

Can you explain what you mean by “You need to create another port channel in the similar way which is created in the cisco switch” ??

I don’t have Cisco switches, only HPE switches.

 

The diagram you sent seems to show two separate MLAG configurations, is that correct? I thought that MLAG creates a single logical switch and therefore only one MLAG configuration is required. Can you explain?

Hi Tim.

 

1. ESXi 6.7 has Mellanox driver as inbox. ( in your case : nmlx5-core + nmlx5-rdma modules for ConnectX-4, ConnectX-5 family)
2. nmlx4-* modules are of native driver for ConnectX-3 NIC family (in your case can be removed)

3. net-mlx4-* modules are of vmkinux driver (old API) for ConnectX-3 NIC family  (in your case can be removed)

4. In general, it's always advised to install latest native driver from (when available) : http://www.mellanox.com/page/products_dyn?product_family=29

5. About performance there is too little information about configuration and actual bandwidth, kindly elaborate.

Yes I have read these documents, and my problem is completely different.

So the NUM_OF_VFS parameter of mlxconfig is 8. In this situation the command mlnx_qos -i enp6s0f1 -p 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7 works perfectly.

After this I usse the command to enable the existance of 32 VFs, mlxconfig -d /dev/mst/mt4115_pciconf0 s NUM_OF_VFS=32

Then I reboot the machine to get the changes applied.

Not enabling VFs by echoing some number larger than 0, so I have no VFs existing.

If I enter the command mlnx_qos -i enp6s0f1 -p 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7

then it returns with this: Netlink error: Bad value. see dmesg.

it is a dualport NIC so as you can see I have not set any VFs. The problem also exist if I set one of the ports up.
