So the title says about all,
I have some servers with dual ivybridge 12core processors, and a bunch of Connectx-3 VPI, EN, and a few VPI PRO cards, all connected to 2 ethernet switches model SX1036. I want to know what kind of support for realtime networking my hardware has. Is there any support for using this gear with RT-KVM/RT-XEN and RT-Openstack?
Does the mellanox hardware provide me with the needed high-precision timekeeping HW needed for RT-operation?
I would like to know as much as possible about my mellanox gear in regard to RT operation. Anyone using this for RT vm's? I would like to set up a private cloud based on the intel open network server design, with RT NFV vm's being hosted on my ivybridge servers, will my mellanox gear support this out of the box?
I read some article about "timekeeper software", but i am not really in the position to aquire expensive software for these goals. I would like to do as much with opensource solutions as possible. (Using Intel ONP design, DPDK etc. )
I would appreciate any advice regarding the whole realtime virtualization matter, especially from people that have first hand experience doing RT.
Will Ivybridge processors be in a big disadventage compared to say the new xeon D line that support all these new cache-control functions that help RT virt ? What hardware would you advice me to consider purchasing? Will FPGA PCI-E cards be of any benefit for RT-openstack? (Especially regarding NFV, SDN?).
Also, what limitations would I need to be aware of when running RT linux? I hear allot about not being able to do I/O? Would this even be true for say NVME cards like intel P3700?
